Buses from Vancouver to Whistler run six times a day and a ticket is $20 for a one-way fare. It takes no more than two hours and a half to arrive. You would go much faster with a car, the total cost will be smaller but the parking lots in the Village are crowded and pricey. I'd say the car is worth the extra hassle only if one or more friends join the ride.
