The best places I've met so far were on Douglas street and Wharf street. I would say that the longer and busier the street, greater the chance to find some nice pubs. There are some places called Bartholomew's Bar and Big Bad John's on Douglas street and one Irish pub with great atmosphere on Wharf street. But you can find nice places anywhere downtown, just bear in mind that none of them are cheap.
