astroboy's question: I'd like to visit the Gastown district in Vancouver but I heard it's a place to avoid . Have you ever been there, is it really that bad?(give a different answer) .
Actually, it's not that bad, although there are some ups and downs about Gastown. There are nice places like Maple Tree Square and Water Street, with very nice cafes, clubs and restaurants and some odd-looking steam-powered clock, but they are in strong contrast to the shanty streets of the south and east or the skid rows between Gastown and Chinatown, with their cheap shops, dirty narrow streets and nasty-looking people. Try to avoid these places at all cost.
