The Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies in Banff is just the place you are looking for because it contains the history of these majestic mountains with paintings and photographs and a presentation of early expeditions that took place in the Rockies. You can find the museum at 93 Banff Avenue and its open from mid May to mid October daily between 10am and 6 pm and the rest of the year from Tuesday to Sunday from 1 to 5 pm. The entrance fee is 6$.
